HUZHOU, China and STAFFORD, Texas, March 7, 2018 – By the end of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Microvast’s fast charging battery systems on board the full electric shuttle buses had successfully served the entire two-week event with a perfect operation record.
E-Bus with Microvast Battery Serving the 2018 Winter Olympics
The Winter Olympic Games is the world’s largest comprehensive winter event. In order to host a green, low-carbon Winter Olympics and present athletes, volunteers, and tourists a comfortable travel experience, Dongcheng Bus Company, the largest bus company in Gangneung where the Olympics was held, introduced electric buses powered by Microvast LpTO fast charging batteries for daily commute operation during the event.

Fully loaded, busy routes, and 18-hour working days (5.30am-11.30pm) were not the only challenges for e-bus operation in Pyeongchang. With an average elevation of 700 meters, the lowest temperature of the city plunged as low as 5F°(-15°C) during the Winter Olympics, which highly affects the e-range of normal battery powered electric buses especially for fully loaded and busy operations. However, with years of proven battery technology, Microvast was chosen and proved its robust performance while carrying out the critical task.
“The buses can be fully charged within 10-15 minutes and travel 70-100 km per charge under the temperature of -15°C.” a staff member of Dongcheng Bus Company mentioned, confirming the buses could fully meet the requirements and successfully provide services during the Winter Olympic Games.
Charging Stations for EVs in Pyeongchang, South Korea
This is not the first time Microvast served large-scale events. From the APEC summit held in Beijing in 2014 to Astana Expo in Kazakhstan 2017, and Xiamen BRICs Summit 2017 to Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games 2018, Microvast, with its “Fast Charging, Long Life and Safe” battery systems, provided smooth, low-carbon operation during those major international events, helping to portray a wonderful scene of harmony among vehicle, nature, and people.
Up to now, Microvast batteries have been delivered in more than 160 cities among 13 countries, accumulating more than 1.9 billion km of service and maintaining a zero-accident record. Microvast is helping to create a greener and better world.
